April ‘23 Newsletter

Hi everyone!

I know I said the next newsletter would come out in May, but here’s a bonus newsletter to tide you over until then. Just a reminder, if you like what you read here, share it with a friend! For every new subscriber through the end of May, Sequoia Chiropractic will donate $5 to the Food Bank of Southern California. That’s 20 MEALS per subscriber! Sign up with your email here. Happy reading!

Do you treat shoulder pain?

Can you help with headaches?

I have this pain going down my leg, can you do anything about that?

Can you figure out what’s going on with my foot?

The short answer is…. Yes, most likely!

If it’s pain in your spine, another joint in your body, pain when you move, pain that radiates down a limb, then I’ve seen and treated it before. And if you’re not sure whether chiropractic is what you need, just ask! You can fill out the contact form on my website, https://www.sequoiachiro.com/contact send me an email at drphillips@sequoiachiro.com, or request a callback by leaving a text or voicemail at 626-346-0977. I’m here to help, and I want to help.

In health,

Book Recommendation

One of my favorite things to do is read, and in each newsletter I like to recommend a book (or few) pertaining to health. You can often find them at your local library which means you don’t have to spend a cent to enjoy them! However, if you want to purchase a copy, the links below will take you to Sequoia Chiropractic’s bookshop.org storefront, where every purchase supports the local bookstore of your choice.

The Sleep Fix: Practical, Proven, and Surprising Solutions for Insomnia, Snoring, Shift Work, and More

By Diane Macedo

Macedo has put together a great counterpart to a book I previously recommended, Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker, PhD. Walker lives in the world of research and theory. Macedo lives in the world. She makes sense of what the sleep research tells us and contextualizes it for real people who can’t sleep a full 8 hours with the same bedtime and waketime every single day because, let’s face it, can anyone?? Her fixes reassure us that you don’t need perfect sleep, but you can make improvements if your sleep life is not where you want it, all without upending your life. It’s the kind of book where you can read the first few chapters, get a sense for how to use it, and then flip to the areas that apply most to you.

Health Affirmation

I’m looking for ways to love life again.

We’ve all been in a place where it’s a drag to get up and face the day. These past weeks in LA, the persistent rain has made it even harder! Let’s remind ourselves to look for the sunny things that keep us going.

Nutrition Spotlight

We’ve all heard that probiotics are important. Gut health is related to your immune health, your brain health, and more! I’ve used tons of different probiotics, and Megafood’s Megaflora Probiotics are the only ones that have made a noticeable difference. These need to be refrigerated, so you know they mean business. When you order on Fullscript, it will be shipped with a cold pack to keep all that good bacteria alive and ready for action!

Practice Announcements

Sequoia Chiropractic’s home visit hours are MTWF 9am-2pm. Need a weekend or evening visit? Don’t fret, just give me a call! Home visits allow for a flexible schedule, and I’m happy to find a time that works for both of us. Call or text 626-346-0977.

Need a health and wellness speaker for your local event? How about a guest article or blog post? Let me know! You can email me at drphillips@sequoiachiro.com.

One More Thing

Check out the podcast The Sound: Mystery of Havana Syndrome to explore a medical mystery afflicting CIA officials and diplomats in Cuba. It is a wild story without easy answers that will get you thinking about what makes a weapon and what makes an illness. Find it on any podcast app, or visit their website to listen.

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful month! See you in May.
